本展では＜あの海に見える岩を、弓で射よ＞シリーズに加えて、新作＜Typical World＞シリーズを展示する。どちらも画像生成AIのバイアスを引き出し、現代社会における視覚体験を再考する作品だ。新作＜Typical World＞で使用したStable Diffusionは、現在世界中で使われている主な画像生成AIツールのひとつで、特定の地域の特定の企業が開発している。どこかの誰かの「ものの見方」の物差しで作られている以上、生成される画像は一見虚構の世界だけで完結しているようでいて、現実の社会的規範や政治性、信念体系や偏見がたっぷりと反映されている。 画像生成AIで画像を生み出すプロンプトとして、「typical」に続けて、私の物差しで選んだ言葉を追加してみる。すると、いまのAIが見せたいありきたりな世界が写し出される。そのTypical Worldは、あらゆる次元で現実世界に影響し合い、特定の世界観が増幅されている。 光を失った洞窟の闇の中では、自分の影と他者の影を見分けることは、難しい。
This exhibition features the Aim an Arrow at the Rock in the Ocean and the new body of work titled Typical World. Both series aim to expose the biases embedded in image-generating AI and invite viewers to reconsider the nature of visual experience in contemporary society.
The new series Typical World utilizes Stable Diffusion, one of the most widely used image generation tools in the world today, developed by a specific company in a specific region. Since it is built upon a particular worldview—someone’s way of seeing—its output, though seemingly self-contained within fictional imagery, is deeply infused with real-world social norms, politics, belief systems, and prejudices.
In this work, I input the word “typical” followed by terms selected through my own lens as prompts for the AI. What emerges is a vision of the world that the AI, at this moment in time, considers typical. This Typical World reflects and amplifies specific worldviews, interacting with reality on multiple levels.
In the darkness of a cave that has lost its light, it becomes difficult to distinguish one’s own shadow from that of another.
