Author: Roberto Calasso

Born in Florence in 1941, Roberto Calasso was an Italian writer and publisher. Alongside serving as the head of the independent publishing house Adelphi Edizioni, he authored 26 books. The Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony, which deals with Greek mythology, became a major bestseller in Italy after its publication in 1988, selling over 210,000 copies.

In 2016, he was awarded the prestigious international Formentor Prize for his complete body of work and his achievements as a publisher, and was widely acclaimed as “Europe’s foremost essayist.”He passed away in 2021.

著者：ロベルト・カラッソ

1941年、フィレンツェ生まれ。イタリアの作家、出版人。独立系出版社アデルフィ・エディツィオーニ代表も務めるかたわら、26冊の自著を発表。ギリシア神話を扱った『カドモスとハルモニアの結婚』は、1988年発表後イタリア国内において21万部を超えるベストセラーに。2016年、その全作品と出版人としての業績に対して国際的な文学賞、フォルメントール賞が授与され、「ヨーロッパ随一のエッセイスト」と評される。2021年没。

訳者：東 暑子（あずま・あつこ）

1973年、北海道生まれ。訳書にエットレ・ソットサス『夜ノ書――エットレ・ソットサス自伝』、ロベルト・カラッソ『カドモスとハルモニアの結婚』等がある。

監訳者：出口治明（でぐち・はるあき）

1948年、三重県生まれ。立命館アジア太平洋大学名誉教授・前学長。ライフネット生命保険創業者。京都大学法学部卒。日本生命入社後、ロンドン現地法人社長、国際業務部長などを務める。2006年に退職。同年、ネットライフ企画株式会社を設立し、代表取締役社長に就任。2008年4月、生命保険業免許取得に伴いライフネット生命保険株式会社に変更。2018年立命館アジア太平洋大学(APU)学長、2024年より同現職。『人類5000年史』1～6(ちくま新書)、『仕事に効く 教養としての「世界史」』１～２(祥伝社)ほか多数。本書は初めての監訳作品。
