When I stayed in New York in 2017, I had a lot of free time on my hands and was idly watching the TV sitting in the inn. At the time, the news was in a serious mood in the US, with society in turmoil due to the divisiveness caused by rising racism and the spread of fake news. But once I changed the channel, I was inundated with visual information, including dramas, comedies, religious sermons and commercials that fueled my desire to consume.

In this film, the TV's digital signal was disrupted to create glitchy noise, and the programmes were filmed as they flowed across the screen in real time. The contours of the original idols projected by the media collapsed and the scene became a madder, blurred world: a bright world projected by TV onto the walls of a modern cave, where the picture was made with writhing electrons.
